Martel Adams has been a native of the Lake County area for 40 years. With an unfathomable compassion for children and their families, she has been in the educational system for over 5 years. Seeing first-hand the struggles of the different families in the school district. 

Growing up I witnessed drug usage in the home, domestic violence, and homelessness. As a child her family would utilize the different resources in the Lake County area. I too would also go through my own journey of unhealthy relationships, the usage of public programs, and homelessness too. I have experienced the day-to-day challenges that my community members are facing. This has driven my passion to work hard for my community by using the resources and my knowledge to help families in the Lake County area.

Giving back to the communities felt like a homecoming filled with purpose. The streets though are slightly changed but still echoed with memories of my childhood. This time I have returned with a mission to give back to the community that helped shaped me. 

Supporting families also meant addressing practical needs. I am My CommUNITY Inc. (NFP) wants to make sure that no family goes without the basic necessities and opportunities for economic growth. 

Giving back to the community has been more than just a personal journey, it is about lifting others and reinforcing the bonds to make a CommUNITY strong. Because I am MY CommUNITY!
